Pharaohs & Turquoise

The ancient Egyptians were successful in Detecting and Finding mines, that led to the mining of phosphate , copper and turquoise... That was in the era of King Senusret I who was one of the kings of the Twelfth Dynasty... He built a temple and dedicated it to the god Hathor the God of life, and also to the Mistress of Turquoise... In the temple was a cave for the god Hathor, carved in the rocks of the mountain... Two successors of king Senusert I; namely Amenmhat the third and the fourth; added to the structure of the temple a statue of the god Hathor and a room in front of the cave and a water source as if it is ready for cleaning and purification to make them closer to the Holy of Holies.

Many paintings were found containing spells and prayers, and a record of the number of campaigns for mining turquoise, copper... and from here began working in the mining and search for Turquoise between 2682 BC and 1304 BC, so therefore was a record of new campaigns for Turquoise mining in the Temple “Serabit el Khadem” which is located in Sinai and is the only source of Turquoise in ancient Egypt.

Turquoise & Nature

Upon the extraction of Turquoise from the mines you'll notice it's the only gem in this world that has the three colors of the secret of existence; the color of earth, the color of the sky and the color of the sea all together in one piece of stone... As turquoise stone changes colors through the four seasons of the year it is considered one of the most fantastic and strangest of all gems... This is what the pharaohs said and I also say that the turquoise stone interacts with human emotions, When wearing a turquoise stone and one is feeling happy his eyes feel comfort and sees a summit of serenity and love one feels as if the color that he sees is smiling because it looks like the glitter of electricity and vice versa. Turquoise is truly a faithful friend for man.

Pharaohs were often recruited dwarfs - after training them for many years - to love Turquoise first, then giving them the know how to extract it from the mines, the secret in doing this is that the shaft is was short and narrow and also to keep the mine from thieves and others, this way no one can access the mines but dwarfs.

Pharaohs used to call the turquoise stone the stone of the Kings as they considered it the stone of victory, triumph and wealth who wears it......
1 - does not get killed
2 - is safe of the dangers of war and enemy plots
3 - never to fall short handed
4 - maintain their power

The research and exploration workers of this stone were required to love and understand Turquoise, because inside the mine Turquoise is found in closed tight places as if its shy to show into the light... Sometimes they find small Turquoise stones gathered together as if grain in a place that they called "Jurra", and when they come across this “Jurra” they celebrate, because it has hereditary beliefs at the time of the Pharaohs.

A worker extracting Turquoise

Since the turquoise stone is composed of phosphate, copper and aluminum hydro.. scientists said that the creation of Turquoise in nature needed about 30 million years.
Therefore, a few years ago and specifically in 2004, when drilling crews were looking for phosphate and copper in the region away from the "Serabit el-Khadim" temple about 15 km, exactly at the area of "Mount Abu Zurab", turquoise was discovered by chance in different places and hence the idea to construct a plant, "Catherine plant" in the northern part of the Gulf of Suez, about 160 km from the mining area to restore and manufacture the turquoise stone once again.
